All entries must meet all requirements outlined to be entered into the Contest. Recipes not meeting Contest entry criteria shall be disqualified. Entries must be the original recipe of the entrant. Once the recipe has been uploaded on the Contest Website for viewing and rating, Sponsor or its third party agency will monitor, spell check and evaluate for originality all recipes by end of next business day. If it is deemed that the recipe is not an original recipe, does not have all the applicable information required to be an appropriate recipe or violates any of the terms or conditions set forth herein, then Sponsor shall remove the recipe immediately without notification to the entrant, and no appeals shall be granted. Also, Sponsor or its third party shall also review the recipe to ensure it does not pose any consumer safety risks. If the recipe is deemed to pose a risk to consumer safety (e.g. suggests the use of uncooked meat or unbaked dough), it will be removed without notification and no appeals shall be granted. Sponsor shall disqualify any previously published recipes, such as but not limited to those in cookbooks, in magazines, from food companies, on food or recipe websites and winners in cooking contests, unless the recipe features changes considered significant by Sponsor and judges. In order for any previously published recipe to be deemed an original, there must be at least three significant step changes, such as the addition or removal of ingredients or change in preparation method, to the published recipe, as determined in Sponsor’s sole discretion. Finalists shall be required to certify, on information or belief, that their recipes are their original creation and have not been published or publicized and have not won a cooking contest. Sponsor reserve the right to assign entries to the Recipe Category they deem appropriate. Selection of Finalists The top nine (9) finalists shall be determined from the overall consumer ratings of all the submitted recipes during the Rating of Recipes Stage. Beginning on November 16, 2009 at 12:00 a.m., all online consumers shall be able to participate in the rating of their favourite recipe from all the approved recipes submitted in the Contest. All rating participants shall be allowed to rate multiple recipes per day, but shall be limited to one (1) rating per recipe, per person, per day. Each person is determined as the authorized account holder of the e-mail address submitted at the time of voting registration. "Authorized account holder" is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an e-mail address by an Internet access provider, online service provider or other organization that is responsible for assigning e-mail addresses for the domain associated with the submitted e-mail address. In order to rate a recipe, participants must register by providing their first name, email address & creating a password for bakingchallenge.ca. Once registered, participants will receive a confirmation email with a link back to the site to sign in. Participants who are signed in can rate a recipe by clicking on the "Rate this Recipe" button and choosing the applicable "Star Rating". Each rating participant may select to give a recipe either a 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 star rating. Each star rating is equivalent to points according to the following scale: Only one (1) recipe submission by each entrant is eligible to become a Finalist. Therefore, if an entrant has more than one recipe rated as a top three (3) in any Category, only the recipe with the highest number of points may be eligible to be a Finalist. If at anytime during the Contest it is found that an entrant does not qualify based on eligibility rules and or the originality of a recipe, the next highest rated entrant may become a Finalist. In the event of a tie in the overall points between recipes, the earlier submitted recipe based on the date and time the recipe was submitted into the Contest shall be used to determine the Finalist. Before being declared a Contest Finalist, each of the nine (9) Finalist shall be required to correctly answer a time-limited, mathematical skill-testing question, without assistance of any kind whether mechanical or otherwise, to be administered at a mutually convenient time by telephone. Each Finalist shall also be required to sign and return, within the time stipulated in the documents, before being declared a Finalist, an affidavit of eligibility, a confidentiality agreement, and a liability release and assignment of rights (collectively, the "Affidavit and Release"). If any of the selected entrants fails to respond within four (4) days of being contacted, fails to sign and return the completed Affidavit and Release within seven (7) days of its receipt, or fails to correctly answer the skill-testing question within the time allotted, Sponsor or its third party service provider shall conclude that the selected entrant has forfeited his/her being included as a Finalist, which may then be awarded to an alternate eligible entrant at the Sponsor’s discretion.
All finalist recipes will be pre-baked in accordance with the preparation instructions before the Judging Event to ensure that the recipe functions as intended and described within the recipe. If the recipe fails to work as described, it shall be replaced with and alternate - the next highest rated recipe in that category that functions. Sponsor shall notify all Finalists on or about February 19, 2010. Sponsor may also select alternates. Alternates will not be notified of their selection as alternates. Selection of Prize Winners On or about February 19th, 2010 in Mississauga, ON, a panel of judges will evaluate the top nine (9) finalists from the Contest Period.
